Travel

For this year's cruise, travel will be much simpler than in recent years. Most crew members will drive to Newport, and no hotel stays will be required. Here's some information which may be of use.

Getting to Newport

For detailed driving directions and parking guidance, browse to the Bareboat Sailing Charters website. If you're using GPS, enter the following address: 100 Fort Adams Drive, Newport, RI, or, if that doesn't work, try Fort Adams State Park, Newport, RI.

For those arriving by air, the airport of choice is TF Green Airport in Providence (PVD). From Providence your best bet is to get to Newport by airport shuttle. Our charter company recommends Cozy Cab, which offers low-cost scheduled service between Providence airport and the Newport area. Give them a call at 401-846-2500 to make a reservation.

Finding the Boat

Our boat is moored in Brenton Cove, across from Newport Harbor. You get to the boat by taking the Oldport Launch from the Alofsin South Pier at Fort Adams. See the photo just below, where the pier is in the circle labeled "Bareboat Sailing Charters." Below the photo, see the Google Map and click on "Satellite" to see satellite photography and the red marker pointing to the T-shaped pier (which is not visible in Map view). The red marker points to where the Oldport Launch picks up passengers. Zoom in and, to the west of the pier, you'll see a parking lot where you park your car. At the north end of the parking lot is a brick building where you get a parking pass for a few dollars per day (office hours 9:00am-4:45pm). Then take the Oldport Launch from the pier to our yacht, Paradise Found. For a set of driving directions provided by Bareboat Sailing Charters, click here.

If you spend the night in Newport before boarding the yacht on August 2, and if you don't have a car, you don't have to make your way to Fort Adams. Instead, you can board the Oldport Launch in Newport harbor next to the Mooring Restaurant on America's Cup Avenue.

Before you make your way all the way to the boat, make sure that someone is on board by calling Sam's cell at 973-945-4041. Otherwise, you're likely to find the boat locked up tight.
